“Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds they would be too many to declare.” Psalm 40:5 (NIV)
Compared to what? Compared to who? There is only one comparison we should be concerned with, that of ourselves in light of Gods grace. God has created each of us unique and individual. A design stated in Genesis 1:27,
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them…”
I have found that my writing is sporadic. I self sabotage, criticize, and above all compare myself to others. “My goodness that writing is so much better than mine.” “She writes so fluently, I could never.” “What I write is not as good as…”
It is a curse. It has been my curse. Yet, all curses can be broken as we have seen in fairy tales, “it only takes an act of true love to break the curse.” I am certain of this, the curse of sin and death has been swallowed up by the true love of Christ. There is no truer love than that of Jesus for us.
I looked up the word compare and found, Compare:
to examine (two or more objects, ideas, people, etc.) in order to note similarities and differences
to be worthy of comparison; be held equal:
The first two definitions are not what we think of when we compare ourselves with others. The last two definitions are right on point.
I have been given gifts and abilities by God. He has given them to me to touch the lives of those He chooses. To carry out His divine plan and purpose. Who am I to compare those gifts with others, to think I am not worthy or able. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength, or words, or hugs, or a listening ear. When doing for Him, and in Him there should be no comparing but to be worthy.
“We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. We, however, will not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine our boasting to the sphere of service God himself has assigned to us, a sphere that also includes you.” 2 Corinthians 10:11-13 (NIV)
I trust Jesus to use the words I write and the photos I take for His glory. I seek no accolades or recognition. I let flow from my heart what He has put in. For Him to use me to change one life, to give one smile, to lift one heart, to draw one closer to Him, that is all I seek. Thank you Lord for your love, for who I am in you, and for all you will do through me. Amen.
