How Great

Glorious Praise

“How great you are, Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears”. 2 Samuel 7:22

“Oh my gosh! You are so amazing, unbelievable, so totally awesome.” Often we use this phrase when someone we know of love has made a difference in our lives or the lives of those around us. Children look up to teachers, parents, peers. Adults look up to leaders, sports figures, speakers, or friends. Both putting their focus on people, their actions or accomplishments.

In 2 Samuel 7:22 King David prays. “How great you are, Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you…” This statement is most certainly true. Yet we, at times, put more emphasis on those people in our lives who touch our hearts and minds with their seeming greatness. I once heard the statement, “Only God is awesome” in the context that we call so many things awesome, but the reality and truth is “Only God is awesome” you can’t call other things awesome. My friend and I chuckle at this statement. Yes, God is awesome, He is the One and Only God. He also created amazingly awesome things for us here on earth. Our bodies, the nature around us, a sunrise or sunset, the colors of fall and the stars that shine in the night. These are only a few of the awesome things God has created for you and I.

What in your life can you say has been provided by the great and Sovereign Lord of whom there is no other?

In our world today there are wars, death, hate, bullying, lack of love. In order to stand firm, to live in the light of Christ in a dark and depraved world we must stay in His word. It is hearing that learn. It is in hearing that we can share. It is in hearing that we store up in our hearts the words that can give us peace, comfort and strength when we need it.

How do we know there is only one God? How is it that we know He is Sovereign? By reading and hearing and putting into action the Word, the direction, the commands we find in the Bible. By hearing about Him we learn to follow Him.

Those people in our lives whom we follow, who we think are amazing, or unbelievable. They are, here on this earth. But it is not here that we live for, it is there, the ultimate, life with Christ for always.

Amen
